Class Description for
Gentle Yoga for Seniors -
Hanna Coe teaches her “Gentle Yoga for Seniors”
series based on her personal experience as a senior who
understands the physical and mental changes that come with
age. As the body ages, muscles and joints begin to tighten
which causes discomfort and anxiety about one's physical
well-being. With yoga, you can learn deep breathing and
relaxation techniques that will help you remain healthy and
active. With just one yoga session, you can increase your
energy level and lift your spirits. By the end of the six
week series, you will be physically stronger, more flexible,
and more mentally alert.
Kripalu Yoga – is suitable for people who have
practiced yoga. Kripalu means compassion, “yoga of the
heart”. There are 3 stages in Kripalu Yoga. The first
state concentrates on learning the poses, going into and
learning the limits of one’s physical abilities. The second
stage has to do with retaining Yoga poses for longer periods
of time, building up concentration and inner awareness. The
third stage is movement from one Yoga asana to another and
comes about automatically; sometimes spontaneously. Annette
likens this to "Meditation
in Motion."
Relaxation Yoga - is a gentle,
calming class, in which Cheryl
introduces postures, basic slow-flow
sequences and breathing techniques that
gradually build flexibility and
strength. This class is suitable for
those new to yoga, those with physical
concerns, or those who simply wish to
experience the therapeutic benefits of
uniting the mind and body through
movement and breath.
Yoga for Stiff Guys -Brad will
focus on chronically tight areas of the
body, including the low back,
hamstrings, hips and shoulders, in order
to increase your flexibility while
easing discomfort and tightness. This
class is especially great for
athletes—runners, bikers, golfers,
skaters, tennis players and any body
that may be strong, yet tight and stiff
from the more aggressive forms of
exercise. Baby boomers will find it is
never too late to turn back the clock on
aging bodies and to regain flexibility.
There are roughly 8 million men in the
United States doing yoga right now,
including some of the top athletes in
professional sports, so come enjoy the
fellowship of other guys who are
discovering the 5000 year old practice
of yoga.
