The word yoga comes from Sanskrit, the
language of ancient India. It means
union, integration, or wholeness. It is
an approach to health that promotes the
harmonious collaboration of the human
being's three components: body, mind,
and spirit. --STELLA WELLER,

FAQs
I have never done Yoga before. What
class should I chose?
We have many gentle, beginner classes.
Please call or stop by the studio so
that we may find a teacher and class
that best suits you. Our certified
instructors watch each student very
carefully and will help you modify a
pose. Yoga is non-competitive and you
will increase your strength and
flexibility over time. We recommend that
you start with a gentle class, build
your strength and confidence, and then
explore our different teachers with
their unique styles.
What do I wear to class?
We recommend loose clothing that is not
constricting on your waist and a top
that will not ride up. Please do not
wear any fragrances. We have a cubby for
your shoes and your cell phone (which
need to be turned off). We have a
beautiful line of exercise wear
available for purchase at the studio.
What about eating before class?
We recommend that you not eat a large
meal before class. But please do drink
water or herbal tea so that you are well
hydrated.
I do not have a mat – what should I do?
It is always preferable to have your own
mat. The studio does have about a dozen
mats to lend, until you are ready to buy
your own. We sell the premium ¼ inch
thick mats at the studio.
I am over-weight, can I still do Yoga?
Yes! Any of our Yoga classes can help
you lose weight. The combination of
moving through the poses and working
with your breath is a great way to
increase your metabolism and burn
calories. Practicing Yoga will make you
more conscious and mindful of when and
what you are eating and how you are
taking care of your body. Yoga also
improves your posture, flexibility and
muscle tone, helping you look longer and
leaner.
My doctor recommended that I take Yoga
for stress relief – will it help me?
Yoga is one of the most ancient forms of
stress relief. Both the Mayo Clinic and
our own Duke Hospital recommend Yoga as
one of the best ways to learn to cope
with stress. Yoga is a complete
mind/body practice that promotes mental
clarity, enhanced self-awareness,
physical and mental calm, and an overall
sense of wellbeing and release. Any of
our classes will provide excellent
stress-relief and help you on your road
to greater peace and happiness.
Do I need to make a reservation for a
specific class?
You may take any Yoga class we offer.
Many classes fill up, so we recommend
that you come to the class ten to
fifteen minutes prior to the start of
class to secure a spot in the room, and
start to relax and center yourself.
