Juanita Remien
- the T’ai Chi
instructor, is an athlete and physical therapist. She
teaches the Cheng Man-ch’ing short Yang style, which she has
studied since 1979. Certified to teach by her teacher,
Benjamin Lo of San Francisco, she has been teaching in
Carteret County since 1999.
Brad Fischer
Brad Fischer is an Emerald Isle
resident who owns and operates Oceanshore Design, an
architectural design business. He is a Kripalu trained
yoga instructor and has been practicing yoga for over 10
years, After becoming PADI certified scuba diver in 1978, he
has enjoyed many years of underwater exploration. An avid
sailor, kayaker, and wind surfer, Brad’s love of the water
started very early in his native home, Virginia Beach.
Brad specializes in teaching yoga for scuba divers,
and surfers. He has also created a program called
"Yoga for stiff guys” to help bring regular guys into the
world of yoga and stress management
Cheryl LeClair
- RYT200
Cheryl attended Wilmington Yoga
Center’s
200-hour teacher training program in 2007 and is a RYT 200
with the Yoga Alliance. In 2008, Duke Integrative Medicine
awarded Cheryl certifications in “Teaching Yoga to Seniors”
and
“Yoga for Seniors Therapist”. Cheryl’s work while enrolled
in Duke’s program included mentored study and practice, and
led to her development of her research paper entitled
“The Effect of Yoga in Senior Populations with
Osteoarthritis of the Spine.” Duke Integrative
Medicine’s program is recognized by the International
Association of Yoga Therapists, an organization of which
Cheryl is also a member. Cheryl has received a training
scholarship from Richard Miller, PhD, to study his
Integrative Restoration, or iRest, Yoga Nidra
training in early 2009. iRest, a form of guided meditation
and mindfulness training has had very positive effects at
Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC in treating
military personnel with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In
addition, Cheryl has had the privilege of studying with Paul
Grilley, Sarah Powers, and Daniel Orlansky at Kripalu.

Jean Sarnacki
(Jaya)
Jean
Sarnacki has been a certified Integral Yoga Instructor since
1991 and has taught at many settings
throughout the county. She brings to class a great sense of
humor, and an extensive knowledge of anatomy and body
alignment through her twelve years of experience as a
massage therapist. She has trained in BKS Iyengar, Ashtanga,
Kundalini & Structural Yoga Therapy.
Rae Williams -
Yoga has been a lifelong
journey for Rae, as she was introduced to Yoga in high
school in the 1960’s. She combined yoga with running for
thirty years until a knee injury brought her focus back to
yoga.
She was thus encouraged to complete her teacher
training at Holy Cow Yoga Center in Charleston, South
Carolina in 2003. A knee replacement in 2005 led her to the Kripalu yoga Center in Lennox, Massachusetts where she
attended Chair Yoga Teacher Training under Lakshmi Voelker-Binder.
Juli Saylor – Juli’s desire is to
spread the yoga passion. She has been a dedicated yoga
practitioner for over eight years and teaching yoga for the
past year in Craven and Carteret County. She has been
certified by the American Fitness Association and will
graduate from Seaside Yoga with her 200 RYT in September
2008. She honors her teachers: Lisa Colletti, Susan Koepp,
Ashley Ludman and Rachael Goolsby.
Nancy Stephenson - was taught by
Chandra Om and certified by the North Carolina School of
Yoga in Raleigh, NC in December 2007. While she is a new
instructor, she has practiced yoga from many different
teachers since 1978. Yoga is the best self-massage one can
do and is a great practice for staying balanced. Her
background as a nurse assists her to understand the effects
of yoga on the body and its value for wellness.
Kerri
Nicholson - Kerri is very excited to have
finished her 220 hour teacher training at the Wilmington
Yoga Center and looks forward to sharing the yoga journey
with her students. Kerri has been practicing yoga for a
year and hopes that her passion for the practice is
contagious, as the practice has provided her with the tools
and wisdom to find peace and contentment in this crazy world
in which we live |
